This past weekend, Apex Girls Lacrosse Events hosted the Apex Girls Preseason Showcase at Hudson Sports Complex in Warwick, NY. The sun was out, and the scenic views of the mountains were the icing on the cake. Over 170 athletes, from as far as Colorado, and as close as New York, attended and brought the HEAT. The showcase was open to 2021-2024s, every grad year bringing a new level of talent and excitement over the weekend. The weekend was fast-paced, full of new and exhilarating drills, and an incredible experience for those looking to prepare for their spring and summer seasons. The event was led by Directors Kylie Ohlmiller, Lauren Murray, and Lauren Lea, all of whom hailing from different professional lacrosse teams. Kylie focused on attacking methods and stickwork during the weekend, while Lauren Murray nailed home defensive concepts and footwork. Lauren Lea coached a combination of each, showcasing her own midfield techniques in various full-field drills.

While all players absolutely exceeded expectations and showcased their talent in ways we never imagined, we want to highlight our Most Valuable Players and Most Valuable Goalies from the weekend. On Saturday, we crowned two Most Valuable Goalies, Camille Thomas, from Rebels 2023, and Madilyn Wargo, from LaxElite Style. Both players shined during the day and especially during the All-Star game that closed out the event. Camille and Madilyn’s competitive nature set them apart from the competition all day, as they continuously made saves, even in the hardest of drills. Our Saturday MVP was Lily Spinner, an attacker for STEPS Elite. Lily excelled throughout the day and was a major contributor to her team during afternoon games, scoring many goals. She was definitely on everyone’s radar at all times.

Sunday’s competition was nothing shy of outstanding. Samantha Wakelee, a goalie for CT Shoreline Sharks, was crowned our Most Valuable Goalie, while Ellrose Hanlon, a defender for Salt City Snipers, was awarded our Most Valuable Player. Both Samantha and Ellrose shined all day. Samantha was a force to reckon with during afternoon games and the All-Star game, leaving little to no chances for offenses to score. Ellrose locked down the defensive end, making numerous interceptions and caused turnovers throughout the day.

We want to thank everyone for joining us for what turned out to be an incredible weekend for all involved. As a reminder, we are now accepting applications for the Girls Apex 60 Summer Finale ShowcaseApex Fall Goalie Showcaseand Apex Fall ShowcaseWe hope to see everyone soon!
