Steady & Focused

Last weekend on Saturday, September 25th, Apex Lacrosse Events hosted ninety goalies spread across one turf field for the Apex Fall Goalie Showcase at Calvert Regional Park. Players from all over the country, as far as Colorado and Florida, joined other players from the North East to compete at the highest level in front of two of the best Goalies and our Directors, Gussie Johns (Team USA Goalie) and Molly Wolf (AU Pro Player). All age groups, ranging from rising 9th graders to rising seniors, were overly impressive during both the skill sessions and competition on Saturday.

To start off the day, our goalies were split into smaller sized groups to ensure individual attention, focus, and more reps at each cage. As the girls got their bodies and minds ready to play we ran through a few hand-eye coordination and footwork stations. Directors, Coaches, and staff alike had the goalies working on a few key skills to translate into their well equipped styles that each player brought to the game already.

As the afternoon heated up, so did the competition. It was time to crown the next “Queen of the Cage”. Out of ninety goalies, one girl would walk out with a brand new Cascade helmet repping the Apex name and the “Queen of the Cage” title. Congratulations to the Queen between the pipes, Regan Bestick.

Last but certainly not least, we cannot forget about our MVG, (Most Valuable Goalie)!! Johns, Wolf and the other Coaches felt that one girl had stepped up to the line and was able to grasp new techniques and translate them to her game all day long. Congratulations to London Golas for being named the MVG of the 2021 Fall Goalie Showcase!!

We could not have asked for better weather or a better day at Calvert Regional Park to kick off our Fall season. Thank you to everyone who came out.

If you were unable to join us this year, Please take a look at the Winter Goalie Showcase on February 26th, 2022 at Capelli Sports Complex in Tinton Falls, NJ.
