2023/2024 Elite Eight

WINNER - Sean Donovan, 2023, Goalie, Express North, Danbury

Donovan put himself on the map this weekend in Warwick, NY by taking home the crown of top goalie in the 2023/2024 bracket. Donovan plays with a level of confidence that wasn’t matched throughout the entire event. He plays an effortless style in the net making saves look smooth and routine. When shooters are in tight Donovan seems to smother them closing the gap and using his length to crowd the shooters sticks typically stuffing any inside attempts. Don’t let his patience fool you as he will come out of the net to make a play. Whether its picking off passes through X or selling out for ground balls around the crease he is always willing to scrap to get possession for his team. Donovan proved himself against some of toughest competition in the country, not to mention some of the best professional players in today's game.

Ben Kieu, 2023, Goalie, UNRL/ Team 18/ Legends National, South Portland

Kieu was lights out this weekend at the Hudson Sports Complex. His confidence was on full display as he stood tall in net against pro shooters. His hand speed is top notch and he seems to excel at dropping down onto low shots, forcing shooters into poor shots where he can make easy saves up top. Kieu has a strong stance with a wide base able to cover up most of the cage discouraging shooters all together. Inside he has the patience to track the head of shooters sticks, forcing players to make difficult shots around the keeper. Athleticism, size, and hand speed make Kieu a force between the pipes.

Noah Dacany, 2023, Goalie, Big 4 HHH, Penn Charter

Athletic and explosive, Dacany was making top level saves throughout the weekend. He plays with a lot of confidence and was able to brush off goals and reset himself mentally. There is little wasted movement in Dacany’s step to the ball, as he is explosive and precise, making saves look routine. His movement and hand speed are fast allowing him to drop onto shots quickly eating up most takes to the low corners. Dacany has strong outlets able to make a save and get the ball up and out lightning fast. Look out for Dacany to continually improve his game as he was one of the most coachable players on the field during the drill segments of the event.

Griffin Howell, 2023, Goalie, Midwest Express, Zionsville

Howell was a pure ball stopper at the 350 Goalie showcase. He touts a strong base where he explodes out of to make some top level saves. His first step is quick and decisive, never guessing where the shot is going. Quick hands make him tough to beat inside, but he is equally as strong saving step downs from range. He has a great reset off loose balls getting back into position between the pipes, and ready to make a save. Toss in the fact that Howell can hit midfielders in stride with outlet passes on a rope, and he seems to have the pieces of a future leader in the net for any program.

Liam McCarthy, 2023, Goalie, DC Express, St. Albans

About as technically sound as they come McCarthy looked more than comfortable in net against some top level shooting talent. He was calm and collected all weekend long with a high level of focus through the drills all the way to competition. McCarthy has a great stance able to maximize his coverage of the net despite having a smaller frame. He makes saves look smooth with quick hand speed. His step to the ball is strong but controlled, never putting himself out of position to make a save. McCarthy is confident with the ball in his stick, able to sling outlet passes upfield with accuracy. He made a deep run into the championship bracket and with the level of competition there it should be an accomplishment in itself.

Cade Conahey, 2023, Goalie, SoCal Bulls/ Legends National, La Costa Canyon

A Spark Plug type player in the cage Conahey was playing with tons of energy on a frigid February weekend. Conahey showed a strong top hand punch near the textbook that allowed him to make some incredible saves. His vision was on point all weekend showing great tracking of the ball never biting on stick fakes. He is athletic between the pipes, able to move laterally with little wasted motion, and never seemed to take a false step or bite on shooters' fakes. Conahey has a high ceiling, and with continued growth and development he can become a standout leader on any collegiate defense.

Marco Wimmershoff, 2023, Goalie, Sweetlax National, Salisbury

Rounding out the Elite 8 of the younger classes Wimmershoff brought his top game to Warwick, NY. He plays light on his feet showcasing his ability to reposition himself between the pipes with ease. Wimmershoff's athleticism was on full display making some top level split saves look easy. He excels at forcing offensive players into taking shots where he can be the most successful, and that is most evident with his inside game. What looked to be a sure fire dunk would get robbed by Wimmershoffs quick hands. He plays aggressive in the pipes crowding shooters making it difficult to find open net. His reset time is something to admire as it seemed he could make save after save and dial back into a great strance preparing for more shots to come his way. Wimmershoff looks to be the real deal, and with improvement of his technical skill the top end of his game is yet to be put on display which is a scary thought for those attempting to get the ball into the back of his net.

Heath Mann, 2023, Goalie, 4 Leaf, St. Paul School(Concord)

Mann was dialed in from the start of the event on, and made it all the way to the championship round in an extremely competitive group of young players. Probably one of the most athletic goalies in the event Mann displayed an incredible range of saves throughout the weekend. Whether it was snagging shots up top or making some pretty split saves there wasn’t a shot Mann didn’t get a piece of. His top hand punch to shots is clean making him look confident on near every save against. Mann may have come up short at the finish, but he is a player that looks ready to take on an impact role.

2021/2022 Elite Eight

WINNER - Cooper St. Clair, 2022, Goalie, Omnia, Detroit Catholic Central

Hailing all the way from Detroit,  if you didn't know St. Clair before you should after his performance this weekend. St. Clair might not be from a lacrosse hotbed, but he proved one thing from the onset of the event and that is players make plays. St. Clair looked top notch in every aspect of the game in the net. He has a solid frame and strong stance that allow him to stay poised and cover most of the net with ease. St. Clair is about as athletic as they come able to pull off some incredible saves on PLL and NLL pro’s who were not holding back the heat. St. Clair went head to head in the Championship round with Yale Bound Cameron Coyle, and was able to take home the win. Humble and hungry St. Clair should be popping up on coaches radars.

Cameron Coyle, 2021, Goalie, Blue Star, Robbinsville

Athleticism and IQ are cornerstones in Coyles' game, and they showed big time this weekend in Warwick, NY. The Yale commit came to play this weekend making it difficult for professional shooters to get balls in the back of the net. He is explosive in net, but never seemed to put himself out of position. Quick hands allowed him to pull off some incredible saves and make a run to the championship round eventually taking home second place. Coyle looks to be primed and ready to step into a strong Yale program and become an impact player.

Niko Decola, 2022, Goalie, Laxachusettes, Hingham

Standing tall at 6’3 Decolas’ frame allows for him to take up a lot of space to discourage shooters. Throughout the weekend his confidence and posie never seemed to waver while he was between the pipes. Decola is extremely patient in net, seemingly waiting until the perfect time to make a play on the shot. He touts a strong stance while the ball is on his side of the field, never breaking out of it showing top level discipline. Eating up shots from the outside from some of the best shooters in the world, Decola looked dialed in Warwick, NY and made a deep run into the championship bracket of a very competitive group.

Justin Gold,2021, Goalie, Jersey Thunder, Lakeland Regional

Gold is electric in the net and brought the energy all weekend long in Warwick, NY. While he touts a large frame his athleticism and quickness seem to be the strongest part of the game. Gold’s quick hands allowed him to make some spectacular saves on top tier caliber shooters. Athletically he was pulling off some incredible split saves that lead to shooters scratching their heads. Gold also has a cannon of an arm, able to hit outlets all over the field with precision accuracy. The DeSales commit was in top form and looks to be ready to make the jump to the next level.

William Heisler, 2022, Goalie, Eclipse, Staples

While Heisler may have a small frame his athletic ability and the way he presents himself make him a nightmare for shooters. Heisler has a near perfect stance always presenting his stick while maintaining a strong base to discourage shooters. He is light on his feet allowing for him to make some explosive saves. Heisler has great hand speed allowing him to swallow up doorstep shots. He has the patience and ability to handle strong step down shots, and that was evident when he was facing some of the best professional shooters today’s game has to offer. Heisler was as coachable as they come, and when you add in his ability on the field he seems to be the whole package.

Luke Renaud, 2022, Goalie, Orange Crush, Skanateales

Renaud brought his best game to Warwick, NY this weekend and coaches and Pros alike took notice. He has a great frame standing at 6’0 tall, but is as athletic as they come in and out of the cage. Renaud plays with confidence in every aspect of the game. When shooters were loading up to take step downs that confidence never seemed to waver. He patiently waited for the shots release and had great tracking able to gobbling up shots from just about anywhere. He has top level hand speed seemingly waiting until the last second to snag shots out of mid air. He plays in a strong stance offering little net for shooters to target. His rebound control is nothing short of excellent, and he isn’t afraid to go fight for a loose ball around the net. Renaud has quick feet and great outlets making clearing look easy. Look for Renaud to continue to develop and grow his game as he was chomping at the bit for every rep this weekend, and with a work ethic like that it's hard for coaches not to give him a look.

David Sadasivam, 2022, Goalie, MO22, St. Louis Priory

Sadasivam was a brick wall this weekend at the 350 Goalie Showcase. Taking his athletic stance as soon as he sensed a shooting threat, Sadasivam seemed to have every piece of netting covered up. He loads up in a wide stance and drops his height down baiting shooters to take the top shelf, but that never really worked out in their favor. Patient in net, Sadasivim has an explosive step to the ball that looks textbook. There wasn’t many shots that Sadasivam didn’t get a piece of, and against pro shooters like Josh Bryne and Dhane smith that’s something to take note of.

Nathaniel Hudgins, 2022, Goalie, Freedom, Easton

From the moment he stepped on the field Hudgins seemed to be dialed in. Hudgins is poised in net and never seemed to make any false steps or guess where shots were going to land. He is patient and let’s the ball come to him before snagging shots out of the air. In tight Hudgins was lights out all weekend showing off a strong punch and step to the ball. Outside shots don’t seem to be a problem either as Hudgins sat back in a strong stance with a powerful base. Deceivingly fast hands made saves look routine against some top shooters. Hudgins looks smooth in net when making saves, and with that level of confidence he should make to be a great keeper at the collegiate level.
